Manly Enterprise Dept.: The Honest Beer Ad

23 Oct

I found this quite humorous. But what do I know? I haven’t had a beer since 1976.

No beer since ’76? Do you drink at all? I have been sober since May 15 ’77. In recent years I have had some desire for a beer or a glass of wine. But it would probably be a mistake. I never really liked wine much, beer yes. Martinis YEAH!! with an almond stuffed green olive! Was that “honest ad” funny? I found it a little too close to the truth for comfort.

I stopped drinking on New Year’s Eve 1977 (technically, the last day of ’76). I’ve never regretted it. I will have a fake beer once or twice a year, but I never consume real alcohol. If I was told I had six months to live I would probably try some of the new brews that weren’t to be found back in the Seventies. Maybe have a heated snifter of cognac, but I am not really interested in the poison. I’ve always preferred MJ.

I was never an alcoholic, but I never had hangovers either and that was a worrisome trait. I just gave it up because watching my friends all vomit left a lot to be desired.

I suppose that “honest ad” isn’t really funny, but I found it amusing to hear someone telling it like it really is about the stuff. I have decades of removal from partaking so I’m way past feeling any connection to the poison.
