If you are anything like me you have taken advantage of the convenience and the large discounts in shopping online. Did you ever wonder how companies like Wal-Mart and Amazon are able to give such fast and inexpensive service?

Well, it’s time to read about the truth behind the convenience of online commerce. Believe me, it’s both sobering and disgusting. You thought that modern slavery only occurred in third world countries like Bangladesh? Think again.

With the collapse of our needlessly fragile economy in 2008, millions of Americans suffered. Millions lost their jobs and when they found replacement positions they were pushed by circumstances way beyond their control into accepting low paying positions in retail and the fast food industry. The kind of jobs that are barely worth doing.

The following article* is by a person who chose to find out what it was like to work in one of the many warehouses that fulfill orders for large discount retailers. It is a stinging indictment of how low our country has sunk in order to give people what they want, when they want it. Someone’s gotta do it, right? Just pray it isn’t ever you.

So, the next time you choose to give one of these ginormous corporations your business, remember the folks suffering to earn dirt pay without simple benefits aren’t just in Indonesia or the Marshall Islands anymore. They are just down the road a piece from y’all and everyday it becomes more and more likely that you will know someone stuck in this commercial hell.
