Superhero Dept.: Wonder Woman Redo

29 Jun

Wonder Woman is being reinvented again, only this time the people at DC have called in the big guns with Jim Lee doing the redesign and J. Michael Straczynski writing the new comics. Straczynski was the man responsible for writing almost the entire run of Babylon 5, an act just about unheard of in American popular television programming. He’s a great storyteller. So his being the writer of the new series only bodes well for its future.

The Old Flagship Wonder Woman

Why am I mentioning a female superhero on a gay blog devoted primarily to hot guys (among many other subjects)? Because Wonder Woman is considered by DC to be one of its most important characters. Wonder Woman stands beside Superman and Batman in the hearts and minds of the people at DC. She’s one of the triumvirate of most respected and featured DC characters. Yes, amazingly considering her low book sales, she is that important. But my interest in her is connected to her relationship with male superheroes. Where the big, uh. . . cu . . . kahuna is, so are men of buff bod and perfect physique.

The New Improved Wonder Woman: As Tough As Any Guy

DC produced an animated Wonder Woman movie in 2009. But that was the old design of Wonder Woman. Despite its violent edge it wasn’t a movie that helped viewers to forget the TV series starring Linda Carter. Ms. Carter might have looked the part, but that series was hopelessly two-dimensional and cornball.

Eventually, depending on the success of this comics reboot, Warners will finance a big screen production starring Diana Prince AKA Wonder Woman. And that would be a good thing? Why? Because the woman will have lots of superhero males buzzing about her. And the more superheroes on-screen the better, IMHO.
